Your first day with Nestral

Set up your household

1. Create an account and confirm your email. If the message does not arrive, check spam. You can use the password recovery link on the sign in page if you need help signing in.
2. Name your household and choose its timezone. Times in the calendar and AI review use this timezone.
3. Open Members to create an invitation link. Share it with the intended person yourself. Creating a link does not send an email.
4. During the pilot, you can try AI extraction without adding a key while Nestral’s shared allowance is available. A household owner or admin can optionally save an OpenAI API key in Settings. That key takes priority, and usage is charged to its OpenAI account. Do not send API keys to support.

Try your first inbox item

Paste a short message with a clear date and time, or upload a PNG, JPEG or PDF up to 4 MB on the web. Direct email forwarding is not available yet.

Read the suggested dates, names, note content and warnings. Correct titles, dates, locations, priorities, shopping details and note content before approving. Events and reminders need a date and time in your household timezone. Confirm event participants and task assignees against the members of your household before approving. AI suggestions do not assign a person until you confirm the selection. Leave a suggestion unchecked if you do not want to save it. Only approve the items you want to create.

Possible duplicate warnings help you compare a suggestion with items you can already access. They do not automatically merge or remove anything. Safe undo removes an unchanged approval as a whole within 24 hours, and only the person who approved it can use it. Approvals containing reminders, or items with linked reminders, cannot be undone this way. If an item has changed, edit or remove it through its normal page.

In-app reminders are available. Email reminders can be enabled in Settings when available for your account. Push notifications are not yet supported. Keep checking Nestral for upcoming reminders; email delivery is not guaranteed.

Use your shared plan

Open Calendar to move between dates and use the month, week or day view. Choose family members when adding or editing an event. Use the person filters to see one person’s events or events with no active family members selected. Tasks can be assigned to household members.

For a weekly routine, choose Weekly when adding an event and enter 2 to 52 occurrences, including the first. Each event keeps the same local time in your household timezone. If the clocks change and a selected time is skipped or repeated, choose another time; no events are saved until the whole routine is valid. Editing or deleting a saved occurrence changes only that occurrence. Monthly repeats and changes to an entire routine are not available yet.

Calendar export downloads all events you can access in the selected date range, even when a person filter is selected. It creates a snapshot for use in another calendar app. It is not an ongoing subscription or two-way sync. Later changes in either app will not update the other automatically.

To bring an existing Google Calendar or Outlook calendar into Nestral, open Connected calendars. When your provider is available, connect your own account and choose the calendars to include. Each calendar starts off and private. Selecting Shared makes its events available to the household calendar, screens, Kitchen Table, digest and calendar subscriptions. Events marked private, personal or confidential by the provider stay private.

Connected events are read only in Nestral. Edit the originals in Google Calendar or Outlook. Selected calendars normally refresh about every 15 minutes; the connection page shows the last successful refresh and any problem. We import event titles and times for the past 30 days and next 180 days, up to 1,000 events per calendar. A failed or incomplete refresh keeps the previous complete copy. Turning a calendar off or disconnecting removes its imported copies from Nestral, without changing originals or recalling earlier emails, exports or printed copies.

For ongoing updates, an owner or admin parent can create a shared calendar subscription. Anyone with its private link can read shared event titles, times, descriptions and locations. Private and custom visibility events are excluded. Your calendar provider controls refresh timing. Replacing or revoking the link stops future access but cannot recall copied events.

For a household screen, open nestral.ai/screen on a signed out tablet or computer. On your signed in phone, open Settings, then Household screens and Pair a screen. An owner or admin parent enters the code, reviews the permissions and approves. The screen shows shared calendar events and open tasks only, with no inbox, notes or editing access.

Access lasts up to 30 days. Revoke it in Household screens or choose Disconnect this screen on the tablet. A running screen checks access regularly; a sleeping or frozen screen clears when it resumes and checks. The separate Display preview still uses your personal account session, so anyone using that signed in browser may also open your workspace. Native iOS and Android apps are not yet available through the public app stores. Use a browser today.

Bring the family to the Kitchen Table

Open Kitchen Table from your workspace for a small family newspaper. Read it on a tablet, or tap Print / Save PDF and choose your printer or a PDF in your browser’s print dialog.

An owner or admin parent can add dinner plans, celebrations and a message for today. Set child ages, postcode and the morning edition time below the paper. The pilot defaults to ages four and six, Brisbane postcode 4170 and 7 am in your household timezone. Enable the morning edition to see its readiness on Home; open it in Nestral each morning.

The paper contains shared events and open tasks, science, nature, history, a puzzle and up to three verified nearby happenings. Local weather and events currently cover the 4170 area. Availability varies. Long plans show a summary with links to the full Calendar and Tasks. Family plans refresh when you open the page, so check the time shown on a printed copy.

Printing requires your tap. Enabling this edition does not schedule printer jobs or send emails. Keep printed copies with your household.

Choose your morning email

When available, opt in under digest and reminder preferences. Morning digest consent is personal and separate for each household. It uses your verified account email and the Kitchen Table edition time, defaulting to 7 am in the household timezone.

The digest contains up to five shared events and three open shared tasks, plus a link to the current Kitchen Table. Private items, inbox documents and parent messages are excluded. Only future scheduled editions after opt in are eligible. Delivery may be delayed or unavailable; check Nestral for the current plan. Turning it off cannot recall an email already being sent.

Try the family pilot checklist and send voluntary feedback when you are ready. Exact tablet, TV, fridge and printer models still need physical testing.

Understand AI and data handling

AI can misunderstand a message or guess missing information. Check the original document before relying on dates or instructions.

Nestral stores account and household information, inbox submissions and approved items using Supabase. Web hosting uses Vercel. Requesting AI extraction sends the submitted content to the configured AI provider, whether you use Nestral’s allowance or a household key. If you add a household API key, it is stored in Supabase Vault and is not displayed again in Settings.

Review what you upload and who you invite. Avoid submitting sensitive information you do not need to organise. You can remove your household AI key in Settings.
